This unusual style cat teddy bear is a lovely medium size, ideal to make from a small piece of mohair.

Printed Pattern

This is the printed version of the Squibb cat sewing pattern. A printed teddy bear pattern is a great choice because you will receive the pattern templates ready to cut out and printed instructions that you can refer to on your worktable as you sew. Once you have paid for your order, we will ship the pattern sheets and instructions to your delivery address.

What Fabric is Suitable to Make this Bear?

We made Squibb using 18mm pile feathered mohair. You can also use slightly more furry mohair, long pile miniature bear fabric, or upholstery fabric. Vintage cotton fabric would suit the bear, just be sure to use iron-on interfacing to stabilize the fabric. Although we think that most synthetic fur fabrics wouldn’t do the pattern justice, it would probably work with a short pile.

Full Supplies List:

  • Fabric – 25cm x 35cm mohair
  • Eyes – 6mm
  • Joints – 13mm and 17mm mini bear joints
  • Nose Thread – black embroidery thread no 8
  • Suede – a small square for the inner ears, paws and feet
  • 2 x pipe cleaners for the tail

Sewing Tools and General Supplies:

In addition to the items in the supplies list above, you will need fiber fill stuffing, sewing thread, and possibly some glass beads or lead shot to weight the bear.

Have the following tools on hand:

  • Fabric marking pen to mark out the pattern pieces on the fabric
  • Small sharp scissors for cutting out
  • Hand sewing needles
  • A long doll needle to insert the eyes
  • A hemostat or stuffing tool
  • Needle nose pliers for the joints

Hand Sewing or Sewing Machine?

We prefer to sew our small bears entirely by hand. You can save time by sewing the seams using a sewing machine. However, you will still need to do some hand-finishing.
