Tiny Tim 19cm

Tiny Tim is a 19cm (7 1/2 inches) old style teddy bear. He is made of mohair with glass eyes and movable joints. The Tiny Tim fabric pack and pattern are suitable for intermediate to advanced teddy bear makers.

This traditional style teddy bear is the cornerstone of every serious collector’s teddy hug. Small enough to easily sit on a shelf or in a display cabinet, his worn fur and many patches tell a tale of a long loving relationship with humans. The Tiny Tim sewing pattern is the perfect project to recycle old wool or mohair clothing or a blanket, or you could even make him using felt or upholstery fabric.

What Fabric is Suitable to Make this Bear?

We made Tiny Tim using distressed mohair with a short fur pile. You can also use slightly more furry mohair, long pile miniature bear fabric, or upholstery fabric. Vintage cotton fabric would suit the bear, just be sure to use iron-on interfacing to stabilize the fabric. Although we think that most synthetic fur fabrics wouldn’t do the pattern justice, it would probably work with a pile of less than 10mm.

Full Supplies List:

• Fabric – 1/16m mohair
• Eyes – 6mm black glass eyes
• Joints – a 20mm mini bear joint set with split pins
• Nose Thread – black embroidery thread no 8
• Suede – a small square for the paws and feet

Sewing Tools and General Supplies:

In addition to the items in the supplies list above, you will need fiber fill stuffing, sewing thread, and possibly some glass beads or lead shot to weight the bear.

Have the following tools on hand:

• Fabric marking pen to mark out the pattern pieces on the fabric
• Small sharp scissors for cutting out
• Hand sewing needles
• A long doll needle to insert the eyes
• A hemostat or stuffing tool
• Needle nose pliers for the joints

Hand Sewing or Sewing Machine?

We prefer to sew our small bears entirely by hand. You can save time by sewing the seams using a sewing machine. However, you will still need to do some hand-finishing.
